THE CHINA-FILM PROJECT AND DR. HAL WEAVER ANNOUNCE THE CROSS-COUNTRY, UNIVERSITY TOUR OF DISTINGUISHED FILMMAKERS  WU TIANMING AND LUO XUEYING, 30 OCTOBER-17NOVEMBER 2006

The ChinaFilm Project is sponsoring a cross-country tour for Chinese filmmakers Wu Tianming and Luo Xueying at U.S. institutions 30 Oct.-17 Nov. 2006.

Wu Tianming is a distinguished Fourth-Generation filmmaker and godfather of Fifth-Generation filmmakers. While head of the Xian Film Studio, he played a major role in unleashing the talent of recent Beijing Film Academy graduates Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige, now international celebrities. Mr. Wu and colleagues have just launched a major, innovative, private-public film studio, Xi'an Qujiang Film & Television Investment (Group) Ltd., in Xi'an. (Wu invited Dr. Weaver, the only international guest, to give a short speech "The ChinaFilm Project: Bridging Two Countries" and to participate in the art-vs-commerce seminar launching Wu's studio.)

Ms. Luo Xueying is currently the Vice Secretary of the Film Critics Association of China. She produced the following Wu Tianming films: "The King of Masks", "CEO", and "An Unusual Love". She also was producer of Wu's five TV series, "Black Face", "The Yellow River Men", "Love in the City", "The Gadfly" , and "Stories in Nanyang". Prior to becoming a successful film producer, she served as Editor in Chief of the influential journal "China Screen," as researcher at the China Film Association, and as professor of philosophy at Beijing University (Beida).

Mr. Wu and Ms. Luo will visit ten U.S. institutions on their 19-day, coast-to-coast tour, 30 Oct.-17 Nov.. There will be the opportunities for fruitful discussions on various aspects of Chinese cinema---past, present, and future--with this successful director-producer team.

The ChinaFilm Project is dedicated to using film and other moving images to increase mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation between U.S. and Chinese peoples.

In form of film and television investment association or industrial association, the corporation will establish strategic relationships with 130 film and television companies in Xi’an in financing, producing and marketing movies and television programs in Shaanxi Province as well as in the whole country. THE U.S. DISTRIBUTION OF GUO XIAOLU'S "THE CONCRETE REVOLUTION"

Guo Xiaolu, April 2005 guest of The ChinaFilm Project for her national, cross-country screening tour of "The Concrete Revolution," has informed The ChinaFilm Project of its U.S. distribution. Choices Video, Inc., has scheduled the DVD release for 11 April 2006.

You may reach the distributor at 310-203-0606, ext. 13, and at mspears@dslextreme.com  (Marisa Spears). The distributor is also planning a publicity tour for Guo, which ChinaFilm Project clients and collaborators, especially those for whom we were unable to schedule her last year, may wish to take advantage of.

Many institutions and individuals have called and written us to express interest in Guo Xiaolu's controversial film essay, which, in our opinion, effectively combines fact, fiction, and fantasy. The ChinaFilm Project hopes to have on its website in May an in-depth conversation about the film between director Guo and The ChinaFilm Project's principal curator, Dr. Hal Weaver, who screened the film more than a dozen times during and preparing for last year's national tour.

Institutions scheduling Guo last year for The ChinaFilm Project coast-to-coast tour included Harvard University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Colorado-Denver (Starz Center), Westtown School, Pendle Hill, College of the Atlantic, De Pauw University, the University of Redlands, and International House/Philadelphia.
